Garratt on the South Branch

Description

The South Branch of Centralis Keye is home to quite a few large articulated locomotives like Mallets, Du Bosquets, and Garratts, as well as some radial axle locomotives.

Here we see a 4-6-2+2-6-4, "Adeimus" Thundering down the hill. She is one of the smaller medium-sized Garratts seen commonly on this line.

Garratts on the South Branch get very large, with the current largest being a 2-10-4+4-10-2 Tandem Compound outside-with-third-cylinder-inside triple expansion engine, with a total of ten cylinders, five on each drive unit. Two tandemed along the same pistonrod outside, and one inside. The engine is known for its almost absurd length, being ten coupled but having a driver diameter of five foot nine inches. It is also famous for needing two firemen that work in shifts, and both at once when running hard.
